Albion Sports again fearing worst over weather
Tuesday 7th February 2012
One local non-league game fell victim to the weather tonight and Albion Sports' boss Kulwinder Sandhu is not convinced that his men will get a much-needed run out tomorrow night.
Albion are due to host Shirebrook Town in the Baris Northern Counties East League Division One at Horsfall Stadium but the manager said, "It has to be rated as very, very doubtful.
"I spoke to the groundsman today and he said it was really wet.
"That was during the day and the temperature dropped below freezing after dark so I don't hold out much hope. It could be off for two reasons - waterlogged or frozen, take your pick."
Sandhu has not abandoned all hope and is desperate for his players to get games in.
He added: "We have a local referee coming in tomorrow morning for a pitch inspection.
"There are no injuries or suspensions now - everyone is available, so we just need to get playing again because we have a lot of games left."
Fifth-placed Albion were leaders before their enforced lay-off.
They have not battled for points since beating neighbours Eccleshill United on Boxing Day.
Their only action since was a Division One Cup defeat at Grimsby Borough on the last day of January.
Tonight Liversedge's Premier Division clash with Barton Town Old Boys at Clayborn was postponed due to a frozen pitch but Brighouse Town's League Cup second-round tie at AFC Emley did get the go-ahead.
Premier Division outfit Town beat their Division One hosts 2-0 with a goal in each half from Tom Matthews.
